ATX Staycation

Low travel costs and unique attractions continually make Austin one of the country’s best destinations for a getaway. Why not enjoy what is in our own backyard and discover our eclectic city? This spring break, plan a staycation and unwind within Austin City Limits.  Here are some Do’s and Don’ts of staycations.

Do - Take a scenic bike ride. Hop on Lady Bird Lake’s bike trail or the Violet Crown Trail. The combination of fresh air, nature and exercise will be invigorating and relaxing at the same time.

Do - Sightsee. Austin has a variety of attractions in our hometown.  From a Capitol tour to swimming holes, there is something for everyone.

Do - Unplug. Make your staycation a device-free zone.

Do - Perfect the art of the nap. Whether you rope up a hammock at Zilker Park or your own backyard revisit the indulgent, forget-the-world experience of taking a long, relaxing nap in the middle of the day.

Do - Take a food truck tour.  Austin is a foodie town, get out and enjoy it!

Don’t - Do Chores.  It’s tempting to start doing all the housework or chores that you don’t have time for during your regular schedule, but resist the urge and go do something fun instead.

Don’t - Overbook Yourself. Practice the art of slow travel on your staycation. It might be tempting to make lots of plans with friends or book too many tours. Take it slow. Give yourself time to just relax and recharge your batteries.

Don’t - Be Afraid to Splurge. People tend to feel guilty when we splurge at home. The mentality is to save so that you can splurge while you are traveling to some exotic destination. But this is your vacation – live a little.

Enjoying a staycation simply takes the desire and devotion to deviate from daily routines and truly take a vacation.
